Project description – Sundar Peanut Garden Water Well
Location: Sundar Peanut Garden, India
Coordinates: 14.872062° N / 76.865060° E
Partner organization: Helping Hands India
On-site project management: M. Vimala

1. Initial situation
The region around the Sundar Peanut Garden is currently severely affected by a persistent drought. The documentary, which originated in India, states:
"The entire community is in danger due to the impending drought."
"It hasn't rained here where we live for years!"
The local population owns agricultural land, but it can no longer be cultivated due to lack of rainfall. Yields have plummeted, the water supply is unreliable, and the livelihoods of many families are at risk. Families are migrating to the cities.
The project management team, Vimala, reports on site:
"I own some land. If we dig a well there, we'll all benefit!"
To ensure the community's water supply, the construction of a water well is urgently needed.
2. Project goal
The project aims to provide a stable and sustainable water supply for the following through the construction of a Borewell water well:
- the local community
- agricultural use (especially peanut cultivation)
- the care of families and children
- to ensure long-term resilience to periods of drought.
The well is to be drilled to a depth of up to 500 feet (≈ 152 meters), as local experts say that water can only be reliably found at this depth:
"If we drill to a depth of about 120 meters, we will hit water!"
3. Project measures
3.1. Technical Implementation
- Geological assessment of the drilling site
- Deep drilling to approximately 500 feet
- Installation of an electric or manual pump
- Construction of a protective housing and water collection system
- Connection to existing agricultural land
3.2. Local Integration
- Implementation by Helping Hands India
- Involvement of community members
- Training on maintenance and sustainable use
4. Budget
The document numbers the borehole as follows:
"It is estimated that the drilling alone will cost around €631.96."
Cost overview
Item Costs
Deep drilling 70,000 INR
Pump system still to be specified
(≈ 631.96 EUR, exchange rate TRG9/26)
Installation and materials still to be specified.
Project management & monitoring still need to be specified.
Note: The budget can be expanded or detailed upon request (materials, pump, transport, labor, maintenance).
5. Impact & Sustainability
The water fountain makes it possible to:
- Secure water supply for the community
- Resumption of agriculture, especially peanut cultivation
- Improved food security
- Strengthening the local economy
- Resilience to climate risks
The project is designed for the long term and will be continuously supported by the partner organization.
